Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Most of my students are second language learners who struggle academically. I always have a wide range of ability levels in my classroom. They range from a student who is new to our country and does not speak English, to those who struggle academically, average learners, and finally those to whom learning comes easily. Our school is a Title 1 school with over 90% of my students receiving free lunch.

My students need to exercise their bodies as well as their minds!

Most of our families live in apartments where there is very limited space to play while at home. In some cases it is not safe to be outside of their apartment.

My Project

It is very important for children to exercise and enjoy themselves during the school day. I believe that this will help them focus on learning while in the classroom. A healthy body leads to a healthy mind.

Currently, our students have very limited choices at recess time.

There is very little in the way of activities for our students. An equipment cart and playground equipment (balls, and jump ropes) would give them options and encourage them to be more active.

Since many of our students live in apartment complexes, they do not go home to an environment that encourages physical activity. This may be the only exercise that they get all day.

This project will directly impact historically underfunded classrooms.
