Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
As a teacher in a low-income/high poverty school district having enough materials and resources is always a challenge. I rely heavily on donations in order to enhance the learning experiences of my students. Our school is fully Title I, as approximately 59% of students come from low socioeconomic homes.
Despite the many challenges they face, students at my school are excited and motivated to learn.
Parents send their children to our school hoping for better futures. Thankfully, our students come to school with eager, open minds. They just need the resources and opportunity to excel.
My Project
Our class received a set of Wonder Workshop Dash robots which they can use to learn to write computer code, however they need tablets in order to write the code and and control the robots. I am asking for these Kindle Fire tablets because they are the least expensive option that will enable my students to get started coding right away. Dash robots can be integrated into all subject areas making them a resource not just for separate computer science lessons, but for all parts of our daily curriculum.
I want my students to have the computer science foundation necessary for jobs of the 21st century.
Unfortunately, only 1 in 10 elementary schools teach computer science, so I want my students to have every advantage possible. They are so eager to get started using their Dash robots to learn. They only need tablets to bring them to life!
