My Students

There is something special about teaching first-graders. They are excited to learn and eager to build relationships with their teacher and their fellow classmates. Everything is new and exciting in their eyes and their passion for learning is palpable.

It's never been so clear to me that the first-graders I teach are going to impact our future.

It is so exciting to meet them at the beginning of the year and watch them grow in knowledge and personality. In one school year, they grow a tremendous amount and I'm thankful to have the ability to see this growth firsthand.

My Project

These materials will make a huge difference in my students' learning. Each child learns in a different way. It is not about sitting in a desk and chair anymore. Today's learning is all about using stability balls, active chairs, and inflatable chairs so that students can learn in their best way possible. By allowing students to get up and move into preferred seating, it empowers students to have a voice in their learning, allows them to communicate and collaborate with their fellow classmates, stimulates their sensory input, and it's FUN!

Flexible seating encourages students to share with one another and creates a strong classroom community based off of choice.
