My Students

My first graders are an energetic and inquisitive bunch who love learning with their classmates. Each day begins with them greeting each other in community circle, working together and singing to build community.

These kids spend each day supporting each other as they read, write and explore their world.

We spend a lot of time on science and are fortunate to have technology to support our learning. As their depth of knowledge grows, they develop new questions to explore and investigate.

While they come from a variety of home circumstances, when they get to school they show how powerful a classroom community can be.

My Project

During my literacy rotations, I like to be close to each of the readers and writers so I can give effective feedback. My current teacher table has us sitting far apart from each other, with some students right next to the teacher and others three feet away.

This horseshoe shaped table will allow me to maintain student focus and give students immediate feedback on their reading, writing and math.

This table will increase student engagement and allow for the best feedback possible.

This table will be used throughout each school day, but will be especially helpful during reading and math group work.
