My Students

My students are bright and motivated. They travel from all across the city via public transportation early in the morning to get to school on time. Many of them may be the first person in their family on the road to getting their high school diploma. They deserve the best, most engaging education that isn't limited by school or district resources.

My students are incredibly self-aware and can identify their learning needs, weaknesses, and strengths.

In the Beginning of the Year Survey I give to my students, they describe themselves as dedicated, focused, and hardworking but also as needing to have things explained multiple times, having trouble focusing in class, or needing to see things explained audibly and visually. I'm confident that they will benefit immensely from having multiple opportunities to engage in chemistry and physics material. Who doesn't love colors and arts & crafts?!

My Project

My students come to physics and chemistry with a sense of dread, knowing that these subjects are known to be challenging. These materials will help my students engage with the curriculum in a new and interactive way.

Many of my students struggle with conceptualizing the concepts they cannot see (which is much of chemistry), but I'm hoping that drawing, diagraming, coloring, and modeling the concepts with these supplies will engage students who wouldn't otherwise be interested in science!

The colored pencils and markers will be used during class - since many of my students aren't able to provide their own. The index cards and beads will be used for modeling activities in class to model things like atoms and electrons!
