Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I teach at a public high school where 100% of my students participate in the free federal lunch program. I hope you can help my students by providing them with technology so they can learn English, AP English Language and Composition, and Journalism through distance learning.

My students are first-generation college-bound students who live in low-income neighborhoods in Los Angeles County, California.

Since they attend a math, science, and technology magnet, my students tend to apply to 4-year colleges in those fields. They take Honors and Advanced Placement courses, enroll in community college courses, and volunteer hours to different community organizations and extracurricular clubs in and out of campus. My student do their absolute best to make themselves competitive in spite of our school's limited resources.

My Project

This color printer will allow me to see multiple drafts, layouts, and multimedia presentations in my hands IN COLOR. This will be immensely useful for projects in my English classes and even more so in Journalism.

In Journalism students usually print out a sample of the newspaper layout we worked on in Adobe InDesign (or another software) prior to sending it out to a professional publisher.

We usually sit around individually inspecting the articles, captions, and images for defects and oversights, but in Black and White, which can be frustrating, since we print in color. For visual learners, which my students are, color works best and would be more professional and representative of the final outcome. Put simply, it makes the copy pop and would better engage the attention of my students.

Aside from printing out student work and presentations, the scanner feature will allow me to scan and upload onto our class' website from home for distance learning. This printer will help tremendously!
