Our school is filled with incredible students who love to come to school every day! They are such happy individuals with so much empathy and curiosity! The staff at our school learns as much from the students as the students do from us about life and the world.
In my class of amazing fourth graders over half of the students speak a language other than English at home.
My students bring many different cultures from around the world into our classroom every day, creating a rich and deep learning learning environment.
It is an amazing environment to teach about difference because it is so evident. I am truly indebted to my students for all they teach me about life and their culture.
My Project
My students love to read- so long as the books they are reading are great! Too many books that come in pre-bought classroom sets that fill my library feature main characters that are invariably feature white, English-first-language main characters. These books simply don't reflect the students in my class, and they understandably don't grab their attention. They need books that reflect their lives and experiences.

With these sets of books, we will be able to set up book clubs in our classroom in which we discuss great literature and grow our reading brains. Book clubs not only provide a great avenue to build a love of reading, they also support our English Language Learners in developing their academic language skills. It's a win-win!
