As a special education resource teacher, I work all day with students with learning disabilities. Many of our students struggle specifically with reading and writing. Our middle schoolers from Oakland represent 20 different cultures and languages throughout our community. As a Title 1 school, it is often challenging to acquire the necessary materials to be the best readers, writers, and mathematicians we can be.
Students with learning differences thrive in a comfortable and supportive environment.
Living in the 21st century, there are so many technological advances that can support our learning. We are one of the few classrooms on campus who do not regularly have access to technology. The help would be life-changing for not only for me as a mentor and educator but my students as well.
My Project
Students in our classroom often struggle to read at grade level due to their variety of learning disabilities. As one of the few classrooms in our school without regular access to technology, our students desperately desire new ways of accessing the general education curriculum. A great way to engage students with learning differences is through the use of technology.
Accessible technology through the use of tablets can make reading and math strategies easier to understand and engage with as a student with a learning difference.
I look forward to utilizing new teaching strategies to help my students become stronger readers, writers, and mathematicians!
