Help me give my students needed materials to help them cope with life such as The Memory Box: A Book About Grief, What Should Danny Do: The Power to Choose, Good Behavior Books, and Coping Skills for Kids.
We are the unique and special "Little Tigers" of a PreK-5 elementary school in North Carolina. The students in our school come from many different and diverse types of backgrounds. The school has about 800 students and a high population of military children who are often dealing with deployed parents or parents away from home. The school also has a high population of children living in poverty. All the children at the school are very special and loved so much!
My Project
As half of the 2018-2019 school year has passed, I have assessed my school counseling notes to see what the biggest needs for the children at our school are. The children have a wide variety of needs especially working on dealing with grief, coping skills for life's hard situations, books on making good choices, and books on things not to do (such as no biting, no yelling, etc.). I also need sensory materials to use when working with children with Autism. I also need materials to help promote positivity in the lives of children who are living in hard times.
Mental health, an essential part of children's overall health, has a complex interactive relationship with their physical health and their ability to succeed in school, at work and in society.
All of the materials I am requesting in this project will be used to better the mental health of children in grades PreK-5.
