One of our Science standards is magnets/push and pull. By using these kits we have been able to explore push, pull, and magnets by using the forces of the magnets to develope a deeper understanding of how forces work to move items. They have used the magnets in a scavenger hunt around the room to find things that were magnetic and non-magnetic. They explored the poles to see which ones attract and which ones repell. Students made a maze on their tables and then used a magnet under the table to attract a metal ball that was placed on top of the table to try and move through the maze. We were able to tie-in the use of magnets and force/motion with an in-school field trip from Science Alliance to help reinforce what we were studying and to elaborate on the skills even more.\r\n\r\nThe students were not aware that we were getting kits. The kits were placed on their tables and when they came into the classroom the look of amazement was priceless and the questions began. They were allowed to free play with them and we did a rotation so that they were able to experiment with each kit. They were beyond ecstatic to use them and were amazed at how the magnets worked.","fullyFundedDate":1703879666405,"projectUrl":"project/empowering-with-stem/7865063/","projectTitle":"Empowering with STEM","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Soto","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp7646106_orig.jpg?crop=720,720,x0,y180&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1743372923685","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/7646106"},{"teacherId":9722599,"projectId":8728403,"letterContent":"I would like to say thank you so much for contributing to my project \"Wiggle While We Work and Learn\". My students were very excited to try the Wiggle Wobble Chair Feet when they first were put onto our chairs. They took the opportunity to see how much they COULD wiggle and wobble when they first sat down. Now they know what to expect when they sit down and get right into our daily routine. The students have the opportunity to work and wiggle at the same time. I have seen a noticeable difference in active engagement with my students while I am teaching and when they are working. They are no longer tipping their chairs or laying on the table during their time with me. They like them so much, they have asked if they can take them back to use on their chairs in the general education classroom!\r\n\r\n Thanks again for helping my students be successful in my classroom!","fullyFundedDate":1725820459248,"projectUrl":"project/wiggle-while-we-work-and-learn/8728403/","projectTitle":"Wiggle While We Work and Learn","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Skarie","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp9722599_orig.jpg?crop=360,360,x0,y0&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1725143329447","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9722599"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_1404","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":666,"numTeachers":43,"percentFrplEligible":95,"percentAsian":1,"percentBlack":37,"percentWhite":31,"percentIndigenous":2,"percentLatinx":15,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"K - 5","studentTeacherRatio":"15.5:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":true,"metroType":"SUBURBAN","ncesMetroType":"SUBURB_LARGE"},"inStateSupporters":49.8,"schoolId":1404,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Rockfish Elementary School on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Rockfish Elementary School","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/north-carolina/cumberland-county-schools/rockfish-elementary-school/1404"}
