Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students self-identify as game changers and are working hard to reach their goals. Many will be the first in their families to earn a high school diploma and they enter high school determined to graduate. Additionally, over ninety percent of my students receive free or reduced-price lunch. They are scholars, empathetic humans, life-long learners, and fearless when it comes to their education and their goals. They are creative, fun, curious and kind.
My students attend a health and bioscience academy in our city and see their futures as nurses, doctors, environmentalists and more.
They deserve the equitable education to set them up for these careers and professions.
My Project
This donation will support our cycling team in the early morning and early evening (dusk) to have lights on our bicycles as we accomplish our final cycling trip. Safety is so important and beyond wearing bright clothing we also want our students to wear these with their helmets to be seen better when the weather is not in our favor or later in the evening.
We have been riding all year to train for our 300+ miles Journey from Eureka, California back to Oakland, California.
Not only will these headlamps serve as safety lights for students to wear while riding, they will also be incredibly important while we are at camp each night journaling about our days, preparing meals for one another, and getting ready for our next day on the road.
