My student are Oakland, California high school students who attend a small public high school. They fight the stigma of living in a high poverty neighborhood--over 93% qualify for free or reduced lunch--with resilience and constant curiosity. They enjoy tackling projects and expressing their opinions about their community and world. My students are advocates for their education and the majority will be first generation college students and first generation high school graduates.
