Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Having a strategy to complete any task is the first step in getting the task done! Having working highlighters to complete the highlighting component for our word problems will make the task easier to do and more clearly defined. I also need the use of reliable staplers to create our group projects.
I teach approximately one hundred forty-two energetic, enthusiastic, and impressionable middle school math students.
They embrace learning when it is taught in an exciting, relevant, and hands-on manner. Our school has over twelve hundred students in grades six, seven and eight. Our student population is very mixed with students from all cultures. Our subpopulations are relatively balanced, too. We work very hard to meet the needs of all the special needs groups we teach.
My Project
As with all mathematics skills specific strategies for improving understanding or increasing test taking skills requires a plan. As students analyze a word problem they are required to implement five steps in working through all math problems. These steps generate a more thorough understanding of what the problem is asking you to do. From deciding what you need to know, using a chart or table, or knowing to highlight the question, each step is designed to build on the other. Using something as simple as a highlighter to identify specific elements of the problems indicates to the reader the question to be answered and the numbers involved in the solving of the problem. The staplers are for use of student projects. Staplers allow the students to be responsible for assembling their own class or group projects. We have a project in early May that calls for the students to assemble a project, "My Special Number" and one that involves "My favorite Room"
The difference in having the materials as to not having the materials will be in our being more successful with our word problem strategies.
I would really appreciate having the materials to further our math word problem assessments and in the completion of future projects.
