My Students

My first graders love to read and write! This group of kiddos come from a very diverse part of the city of Philadelphia.

My students come from households where there are some, to little, to no resources.

This creates a gap in the achievement and learning within the group of students. The wonderful parents of these children want to provide them with as many resources as you or I would for our own children, but often times find it difficult to locate or purchase these resources.

My Project

Colored paper makes student work STAND OUT! My students feel important when they can use the bright colored paper to display their work in our hallways. It also is wonderful to use for projects. Instead of tracing shapes on construction paper, I trace the shapes once and copy the rest (using a copy machine) on colored copy paper. The colored paper is also very helpful when important papers get sent to parents. The bright colors help notes stand out instead of getting lost in the shuffle of student work.
