Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

STEM careers establish an exceptional path for students today yet research has found that huge disparities in achievement in these fields remain when looking at both race and gender. Just one study found that about 13% to 16% of white students versus 3% to 4% of Black or Hispanic students displayed advanced science or math achievement. I am looking for help to fund STEM centers in my fifth grade class to bring equitable access to all.

The materials provided in this project would allow me to excite students about science and engineering and bring equal access to our school community.

Hands on learning through STEM is among the most effective ways to get students excited in a STEM career. Teaching at a Title 1 school where many of our students may be the first in their families to pursue a career in STEM, it is all the more important to keep the excitement and approachability of these careers alive.

I want help making my students aware of these inequities and challenges and keeping them excited about all the opportunities and resources available to them.
