This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
As a special education teacher I service students that have multiple ranges of disabilities. These disabilities affect them in many aspects of their lives including sensory needs, academic needs, emotional needs, and behavioral needs. On top of their disabilities my students come from a community that is highly affected by trauma. The traumatic experiences that they have had in their lives make it difficult for them to maintain relationships with both adults and peers.
I service students that are have needs both at school and home.
The needs of my students differentiate day to day and they can differentiate hour to hour. Every student that I service has a special place in my heart from kindergarten to six grade.
My Project
During this time of distance learning the flexible seating I am requesting will allow students to move but still stay focused. Currently my students are using their chrome books from home and are struggling with staying focused for the entire day.
With the alternative seating and writing utensils my students will be able to focus and continue to work on the correct writing grip.
When the time comes for them to return in person, I want to make sure they are safe. They are not exposed to the germs and are well taken care of through their education and mental health. With the sanitizer and plexi guards my students will be able to focus on their learning. The face mask with the windows will make it to where the students would not be scared and can see the formation for the letter sounds. With the use of the document camera the lessons and educations my student get through distance learning will be clear.
The bridge between school and home is a lot but with these materials I hope to make the bridge just a little smaller and see progress.
