Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Our math program has been discontinued and our current materials are not aligned to the new Common Core Standards. As a new teacher, I also do not have the materials for math and reading centers.
My second graders are amazing!
They are excited to read about the life of Ruby Bridges, share their posters for Black History Month, plant seeds for our next science unit, and use duct tape to make bindings on their published fantasy stories. They love working with each other on small group activities. One of our favorite games is Addition/Subtraction Football. Students compete against each other to answer addition or subtraction facts the quickest and then attempt to shoot the football into a basket for a point for their team. They enjoy my creativity, colorful anchor charts, and writing pen pal letters to another second grade class. Some of my students are eligible for free and reduced lunch, special education services, and a few are English Language Learners. They are a diverse group of youngsters eager to learn and do well.
My Project
These math and reading resources would be a great asset to our classroom. They would be used as centers around the room or for my monthly math game days in the cafeteria. I want to bridge the gap to the new standards. Many of our resources are out of date and not aligned. The activity cards would allow me to differentiate my word work and math groups much more easily. I would also be able to circulate the room more, offering assistance to a wider group of students. In other instances, I could pull students to work on a specific strategy while the rest of the class did the activity cards. My students would be excited to have something new that was hands-on. It would provide additional practice to ensure that all students master the skills they need to successfully complete second grade.
Any donation would greatly impact our classroom community.
We appreciate your support and compassion for our children. These research-based products will support our curriculum, increase student engagement, and make our learning fun! Thank you! Much love from CT!
