My second graders are amazing! They are excited to read about the life of Ruby Bridges, share their posters for Black History Month, plant seeds for our next science unit, and use duct tape to make bindings on their published fantasy stories. They love working with each other on small group activities. One of our favorite games is Addition/Subtraction Football. Students compete against each other to answer addition or subtraction facts the quickest and then attempt to shoot the football into a basket for a point for their team. They enjoy my creativity, colorful anchor charts, and writing pen pal letters to another second grade class. Some of my students are eligible for free and reduced lunch, special education services, and a few are English Language Learners. They are a diverse group of youngsters eager to learn and do well.
