My students need new headphones to access language programs and applications.
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

We are located in the District of Columbia, Title 1 school, serving a multi-cultural and multi-ethnic student population. Students at my school feel valued by the work we do around identity, respect and tolerance of all people. My students are part of our dual-language program where they receive instruction in English and in Spanish. In my class in particular, students are learning math concepts in Spanish! However, students are having a challenge bridging the language and concepts in both languages.
Despite this challenge, our motto is "Good better best, never let it rest, until our good gets better and our better gets best!"
Math learning in our class is taught in Spanish. Students are learning how to add, subtract, multiply and divide in Spanish; which for most of the students is in their native language. As part of our program, students interact with online platforms in English so that they can bridge and close the language gap. These programs are individualized lessons that fit the learning needs of the students.
In order to get the most out of these programs students need to have their own set of headphones so that they can concentrate on the lesson.
Currently we are sharing 5 headphones for 36 students (do that math!) and kids are not getting the most out of the content that they can. I am requesting these headphones so that students get the most out of their learning and are exposed to rich educational content that helps them bridge and acquire language. It's important that we have these headphones at school because for most students this is their only opportunity to be exposed to technology.
