My Project

A welcoming start to the school day can make a huge difference. I'm setting up a morning coffee station to support positive behavior and encourage students to build consistent habits. This small but meaningful gesture will foster a sense of belonging and community among my high school students, and will also be available for families during Back-to-School Night.

This project will fund the purchase of coffee capsules, creamer, sugar, and insulated coffee cups to create a warm and inviting experience.

How My Students Will Learn Compassion

Students will learn to see the world through the eyes of others by serving as part of our "Morning Crew." A rotating group of students will prepare the coffee station, considering their classmates' needs and preferences. This experience will teach them to think beyond themselves and recognize that a simple act of kindness can make a big difference for someone else's morning.

The station will also be a hub for peer tutoring and class prep, empowering students to help and support their classmates. Morning Crew members will be encouraged to assist peers with flashcards, review a quiz, or simply offer a listening ear to a classmate who is struggling with academic or social stress. By providing this support, students will learn to recognize and respond to the needs of others.

Measuring Success

I will measure the project's success through student recognition and positive communication. Students will be awarded Minga points when they demonstrate compassion and are seen helping their peers. I will also use Minga to send positive notes home to parents, highlighting specific instances of their child showing kindness or empathy at the coffee station. These recognitions will serve as a tangible way to measure and celebrate students' growing understanding of compassion and its impact on our community.
