Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My 5 and 6-year-old students are curious, high energy and eager to learn. They have been trying to adapt to all the "online" learning but it has come with challenges for many since most of their parents have little experience with technology and are themselves adapting to this "new" way of learning.
The hands-on learning, they were so accustomed to, has left my little ones yearning for that social environment in which they practiced skills learned in school and life in general.
Now, these are only memories of the "normal" school day we once knew. The uncertainty of when school will start again and the fear that comes with that is too great a burden for many to fathom. School and learning in the classroom had provided a safety net that has now been ripped away by the Corona virus.
My Project
My students have risen to the challenge during these past couple of months learning from home as best as they could at such a young age. Many do not even have a personal space beyond their reading pillow buddy, yet they have been championing like the superheroes that they are.
I want to provide my students with the opportunity to keep that learning momentum going throughout the summer by providing them books for reading and a bilingual flashcards that will strengthen what they have already learned, plus give them a head start for first grade.
Not missing a beat, they will jump into reading and completing their workbook, because that is the amazing, eager learners I have. They inspire me to continue teaching just by watching them learn and adapt to circumstances all around them. They are my heroes!
