Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

As each year passes, we are finding that more and more students are struggling to self-regulate. This year we have found that so many of our students desperately need a safe space to be able to calm down and regroup. Being able to create a "calm corner" would be so beneficial to our students. This calm corner allows students to take a break from the classroom and to talk about what led to us becoming dysregulated.

Our calm corner would include a tent, a bean bag, weighted blanket, weighted stuff animal, and a rug.

This would be a calm space filled with sensory toys and items that help make the room feel safe and warm.

This year we have a high number of students who have autism, ADHD, ODD and the classrooms do not have the room to provide our students a place where they can take a break. This "calm corner" is located right in the center of the school and would truly help the students give them the break they need so that they can then return to the classroom and resume their academics.

Any help with creating our "calm corner" would be so greatly appreciated.
