Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

1. By receiving this professional development opportunity, I will be better equipped at modeling as well as teaching my students empathy and compassion. When I model empathy, or seeing the world through the eyes of another person, it will help my students see the world through the eyes of others as well. When I have the necessary training to be able to better understand empathy and compassion myself, I will then be able to teach my students about empathy and compassion. This will also help them begin to develop empathy and compassion.

This training will empower me to be present, compassionate, authentic and fulfilled in my relationships with my students and will allow them to do the same in their relationships with others.

2. By knowing how to focus more on compassion and incorporate SEL into my everyday classroom, my students will learn strategies for processing their emotions, understanding the emotions of others, care about those feelings, and then do something to show those they care. This training will prepare me to know how to incorporate compassion in my classroom. As a result of me implementing what I learned, my students will begin to be able to do things to help classmates feel better such as helping others understand their emotions are normal and make sense, and suggestion regulation strategies. They will also be able to offer support to others who are need of compassion such as offering hugs, a card, smiling or a gentle reminder that everything will be okay.

3. I will measure success or know that my participation in this training has been successful at helping my students develop empathy and compassion by observing how my students interact with others and how they use the skills such as empathy and compassion throughout the school day.
