I work with a population of special education and English Language Learners that are included in the mainstream of a regular education first through seventh-grade program. Most of my students have specific learning disabilities or language needs in the areas of reading, writing, math, and content area subjects.
My students learn differently.
They haven't mastered and successfully learned from the traditional teaching approaches. Many need visuals, hands-on experiential learning, while others need text to speech or speech to text adaptive equipment, and the majority of students need a multi-sensory approach with specialized instruction.
I push into classrooms and also use a pull-out model where students leave their classrooms to work in small-group. This is where we do most of our differentiation of instruction. I provide students with leveled books, most of which we need to print. We write and respond to the books we read.
My Project
My students are inner city youth. Research shows that more diverse students in inner city neighborhoods have asthma, allergies, and are exposed to air pollutants.
This project will help my diverse students breathe easier in the classroom.
Thus, this will create a productive learning environment in my classroom especially for my students with asthma and allergies. They will be able to fully focus on their academic learning during Resource Room Reading, Writing, and Math class.
This air purifier will make my students’ learning space a better place to breath easy and to be able to focus on academic content throughout all subjects.
