This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My school is a large high school (1700 students) in a rural area. Our Physics program has seen a huge jump in enrollment in the past few years, and we have been working hard to have good access to quality materials.

We are the older, and now smaller, of two comprehensive high schools in our district.

Our students are mainly second language, and the majority of them qualify for free or reduced-rate lunch. Many of them will be the first ones in their family to attend college.

My Project

Getting our students do do critical thinking about Physics is a huge challenge. But there is a very fun, and educational way to do that. And that is doing a breakout challenge.

A breakout challenge is an activity that brings the escape room experience into the classroom.

By bringing this exciting and educational task to our students will help to reinforce the material we have been working on in class, give them a collaborative experience, and add an aspect of fun to working on problems. One very cool thing about the breakout boxes are that they are changeable. We will be able to alter the tasks for different topics and re-use the same boxes and locks. I am excited to have to opportunity to bring these great activities to our classroom.
