My Students

I teach 4th grade on the south side of Des Moines for Des Moines Public Schools. My classroom is a true civic center and is setting goals for our socially, racially, culturally and economically diverse students. My students are 21st century learners who are seeking meaningful learning, meaningful experiences, and meaningful fulfillment. They are inspired by challenges, and they continually rise to the occasion when given the opportunity to persist in problem solving!

My Project

Breakout EDU engages students with rigorous tasks that accumulate to a final task that will help students develop higher level thinking skills. Students are motivated to work in teams as they engage with vital curriculum to "break out." Breakout EDU is highly versatile, allowing teachers to design breakouts that align with standards and meet the needs of their students. In fourth grade, the Breakout EDU kit can be used for literacy, science, math, civics, geography and economy. When students complete a "break out," it builds classroom community and a climate for all students to engage as critical thinkers. This Breakout EDU kit will serve my classroom as well as the two other 4th grade classrooms in my school.
