Breakout And Learn Something New

My students need 6 Breakout Edu Boxes to help them learn healthy habits now. They also need 10 sets of jump ropes to help them be active for 60 minutes a day.

My Students

I need to move it, move it! I need to move a lot. These two phrases could describe most second graders. They are not only active with their minds at school, but their bodies need a chance to be active, too.

I teach a wonderful group of second grade students that are curious about the world around them and are ready to meet new challenges head on.

They are 7 and 8 years old, and they are just now beginning to develop the eating habits that will stay with them. I want to lay the foundation of healthy eating and active lifestyles now, so that they are the right path for the future.

My Project

I recently went to a training where I learned about Breakout Edu boxes. When I returned to the classroom, my students asked where I had been. When I told them about my training, their eyes light up! They asked me what seemed like a million questions about the Breakout boxes and we spent the next hour investigating them together. We watched videos of other classrooms participating in challenges and explored the cost. When we were done, my students asked me I could write a Donors Choose project for Breakout Boxes.

I am requesting 6 Breakout Edu boxes for my students to use with a healthy living curriculum.

I will present my students with healthy living challenges. Through these challenges my students will learn about nutrient-dense food as they work together to answer the questions. They will learn how to create a balanced plate, how to read a food label, and about foods eaten around the world.

We will also use the Breakout Boxes for active living challenges. In these challenges, students will need to learn the rules of a playground game to unlock the box. When they Breakout, we will head outside to play the game we just learned

As we solve our Breakout Challenges, students will need to participate in a physical activity before moving on to the next challenge. After each puzzle, they will jump rope 15 times, and then move on. Ot do this, I am requesting 6 sets of jump ropes.

This goal will help my students learn about nutrient-dense food as well as reach their goal of being active 60 minutes a day. The collaborative nature of the Breakout Boxes insures that everyone will be engaged in the learning and will develop healthy habits to last a lifetime.
