Breaking Out of the Norm

My students need four Breakout Boxes for our classroom. Student will do various learning projects in small groups, receiving clues and puzzles to "unlock" the next activity.

My Students

Hello! I teach four wonderful classes of eighth grade students in Maryland. We are located in a rural community and a fairly small middle school. My classes range from sizes of 23-31 students. Many of my students receive free or reduced lunches.

My students enjoy experiences which challenge their mind and keep them engaged.

Language Arts involves a great deal of reading, but my students need MORE from their education that just reading and writing. They enjoy exploring, surprises, and activities which get them out of their seats. They often enjoy being social, but can also focus on the tasks at hand.

My Project

In our current society, students seem to be more and more distracted by the world around them. They have grown up in a society where technology and screens have become a way of life, and educators must look at different ways to inspire learning and enthusiasm.

These breakout boxes will be a new, exciting element in our classroom, providing teamwork, problem solving, and excitement in learning.

Clues and puzzles will be provided to each group. The students must successfully solve each step in order to be able to unlock the locks. I know that my students, many of whom have a competitive nature, will love the challenge of "winning," and I will love the enthusiasm from learning.
