Help me give my students combination, directional, key, and words locks to create a seriously awesome breakout box to promote and engage active learning!
My students are eager, thoughtful, and energetic. They love discovering, creating, and ask thoughtful questions. They enjoy hands-on, engaging activities that challenge them to find solutions and expand their knowledge. They come to school every day ready to try new things and challenge themselves. They are, simply, amazing!
I encourage my students to be life-long learners and strive daily to guide them to achieve their goals.
However, the method and style in which my students learn best can vary greatly, so in our classroom we incorporate a variety of learning modalities, group work, and movement to ensure that everyone’s needs are met. We are also firm believers in a growth mindset (“yet” is a powerful word!). I challenge my students to ask questions and take an active role in their learning.
My students come from economically diverse homes. Many of my students are working at becoming fluent in English, and speak another language at home. This means my students come from a variety of home environments, and because of this, my students are very accepting of differences in others. They are accommodating, welcoming, and have the biggest hearts. It is what I love the most teaching where I do!
My Project
Students love a good challenge. Put any topic in game form, and they are hooked! Breakout boxes combine the two with academic content, and present learning in a fun, engaging way. The students are completely involved! These materials will allow us to create breakout boxes so students are engaged in content related topics, using clues to open locks and solve academic puzzles.
Each breakout activity would be designed to support a specific math or science topic and would require my students to collaborate and communicate while thinking critically and creatively.
The combination, directional, and word locks are easily set to a new combinations, allowing them to be used again and again.
Pre-made lockout boxes can be very expensive, and only include enough materials to create one box. The materials we are asking for would allow our class to create six of these "kits", allowing for a whole class breakout activity. We would be very appreciative of these materials as they would create a fun, engaging method of learning.
