My students are ready and willing to learn and are working hard to enhance their musical skills. They have been through a lot of turnover--I'm the fourth band director in four years! The students are ready for some stability and routine, and I hope to provide that for them.
My students come from a wide variety of backgrounds, but what brings them all together is their love of music.
Some students and their families are able to rush right out and buy a brand new instrument and accessories, while others have to rely on the school for their musical needs. We are a Title I school, which means that sometimes the more expensive activities are out-of-reach for some students and their families. I never want anyone to be excluded from band on the basis of affordability, so I work very hard to make sure that all the resources students need to grow are available to them!
My Project
This is an official Breakout kit from Breakout EDU. I have created my own kit from materials I purchased locally, but I would love for my students to get the full experience of the real deal!
Breakout EDU is a game-learning system that allows students to have an "escape room"-type experience without leaving the classroom!
They are actually trying to use clues around the room, their own knowledge of the subject matter, and teamwork to break INTO the box instead of OUT of the room.
I have used Breakout EDU for reviewing musical concepts as well as general team-building needed to have a great band program! I have created a game myself and had it published on the Breakout EDU website for other teachers to use and classes to enjoy. My own students really loved it when we played before Spring Break and were asking when we could do another one! Next time I would love to be able to surprise them with using the full kit and all of its parts.
