This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
My 6th, 7th and 8th grade special education students are full of energy, charisma, and a fuel for learning. They come from all different backgrounds. Some of my students are refugees from other countries, some in foster care, and about 90% come from low socioeconomic backgrounds. Each of my students come to school each day with a hope that their day will be full of happiness, free of hunger and packed with learning. Each of my students is special in his or her own way.
My Project
My students often come to class hungry. As growing Middle Schoolers, an empty stomach is not conducive to learning! Many of our students do not have adequate meals at home, and furthermore find themselves hungry throughout the school day.
This project will ensure that my students will not be distracted by hunger while they are at school.
It will also make snack readily available so they do not need to feel embarrassed for asking for food.
By having snacks such as Pop Tarts, granola bars and crackers my students can quickly fill their bellies and move on to their school work.
