My Students

I teach advanced English and creative writing to high school students in upstate New York. Like so many communities across the country, our area has endured significant economic and demographic changes over the last couple of decades. Nonetheless, our families and students are resilient, determined, and eager to make the world a better place.

My students are writers and readers who will soon enter the world of college and work.

They want to make their mark in the world, and it's my job to prepare them.

My Project

Breakout adventures require students to get on their feet and think. Students decipher clues, consult texts and work together in order to find their way toward a solution.

I am requesting lock boxes, letter locks, diversion props, black light pens and caesar ciphers so that I can create more "breakouts" for my students.

My classes are quite large, so I have requested multiples of everything. I have also requested Orbitz gum and Kit Kat bars as rewards for solving the puzzles. The batteries are for my UV flashlights.

It's fun for me to watch students as they work through the clues. Working in teams requires students to throw their ideas onto the table and see how those ideas fit into the bigger picture. Thank you for your help.
