This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
My PreK students are 3 & 4 year old little sponges who are eager to learn all the wonders of this BIG world. For some this may be their first experience away from home. They are wide eyed and curious.
They come to school each day full of energy and ready to be creative.
They love hands on engaging activities that challenge them and allow them to problem solve. They are brave and daring, willing to think outside the box, jump right in and meet the challenge head on.
In my classroom which is located in the north east Bronx I like to give my little ones as much exposure and exploration with activities that challenge them both cognitively and physically.
My Project
In my classroom I give my students many opportunities for exposure and exploration. The students are given free choice as to which puzzle they would like to choose and if they want to work alone or with a partner. Through the use of puzzles the students are provided with the opportunity to develop fine motor and eye coordination skills.
When doing puzzles students improve their memory and developed shape recognition as they do the puzzles many times.
Puzzles also help develop a students problem solving skills and help improve visual and spatial reasoning.
Finally a student will develop the skill of patience as they work hard to complete the puzzle. Once completed the student will feel a sense of accomplishment and will see the reward of all their hard work .... the completed picture!
