In my classroom I give my students many opportunities for exposure and exploration. The students are given free choice as to which puzzle they would like to choose and if they want to work alone or with a partner. Through the use of puzzles the students are provided with the opportunity to develop fine motor and eye coordination skills. When doing puzzles students improve their memory and developed shape recognition as they do the puzzles many times. Puzzles also help develop a students problem solving skills and help improve visual and spatial reasoning. Finally a student will develop the skill of patience as they work hard to complete the puzzle. Once completed the student will feel a sense of accomplishment and will see the reward of all their hard work .... the completed picture!
