Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students are a group of the smartest, little learners in my entire school! They come from different backgrounds; some ride the bus in from far away neighborhoods and some live across the street. We are a blended special education and bilingual classroom within a ninety percent free or reduced-price lunch within a school.
Pre-kindergarten is one of the most important grades in school.
It is the time when students get hooked on education. The best way to hook them is with adapted materials that will allow them to learn in an individualized way.
My Project
Since switching to the Dual Language program I have had to revamp and update the classroom library. Please help me finish our library getting the books we are missing from our curriculum in either English or Spanish and get some new, diverse books about diverse characters.
In order to help my students become invested in our library (and thus, curricula) we need books that represent their culture; students need to see themselves mirrored in the stories we read.
Books in student's language(s) filled with diverse characters, and diverse family dynamics will help with that important task.
