This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
My students are go-getters. They have the opportunity of having a teacher who demonstrates love, provides honesty, gives 2nd chances and emphasizes the golden rule. Students may come from low-income homes or are homeless with few opportunities to receive necessities to be their best selves. That is why, when they are faced with a challenge, they rise to the occasion and impress me every time. I want to show them they are appreciated.
Excuses, "Excuses are tools used by the incompetent, used to build monuments of nothingness." This quote is an embodiment of my class.
Students are given the resources to succeed in class, out of class, and at home when needed. When I told my students to memorize Excuses, they wondered why. The reason is when you are determined to achieve your goals, you cannot make any excuses. You must be determined to surpass any motivation to fail and become the leader you want to be.
Overall, the students I serve are eager to learn, highly capable of becoming their own hero and ready to face the world after high school. My class has challenges like any other room of students, but they do not give excuses.
My Project
When Brain Grains 2.0 is fully funded, I will be able to offer students more than the traditional classroom. They will enter an inviting room that includes a nutritious snack in a mentally stimulating learning environment. Students will understand how topics of Social Studies prepare them to interact on a higher more intellectual level with people outside of the school. Since they know they can receive a snack in my class without any form of judgement due to their home life, they feel safe and are willing to participate more. They become happier and enjoy learning after they satisfy their appetite.
