I teach 7th grade social studies at a small charter school in Surprise, AZ. My students are inquisitive, passionate, and full of excitement to be back in a more traditional classroom setting!
They have been incredibly resilient through these unprecedented times, and continue to impress me with their dedication to their education.
My Project
Through the pandemic, we have seen how helpful technology has been in education. We have been able to transition learning outside of the classroom and make things like grading papers much easier. But, I have also seen what too much technology can look like.
Many of my students complete their assignments (on the computer) and then rush to play games and scroll social media.
My goal is to create a shelf of activities that my students can do after completing all of their coursework. I have done a "test run" with dollar store items, and it has gone over surprisingly well. I want to get some sturdier wooden puzzles that won't be easily destroyed by middle schoolers, as well as other brain-growing activities.
