Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

"No Kid Hungry surveyed teachers and principals and found that three quarters of educators see students who regularly come to school hungry. These educators described hungry students suffering from a host of problems: poor academic performance, inability to concentrate, lack of motivation, tiredness, behavioral problems and feeling sick (No Kid Hungry)."

In my classroom, students are constantly asking for snacks and water: some cannot make it on time to eat breakfast at school, others rely on lunch food for the entire day, and many lose concentration due to an empty stomach.

It would mean the world to receive help to nourish my students' hearts and minds with food in their bellies.

"Research confirms that hungry students are more likely to score lower on standardized tests, repeat a grade, be suspended from school, get sick more often and be hospitalized more frequently (No Kid Hungry)."

I teach English I, English as a Second Language, and Reading I to 80 wonderful 9th grade students. Most of my students are Emergent Bilinguals, which means they are learning English as their second language. My students come from low-income households as well, where they may not have food on their table for all 3 meals of the day. They are resilient, hard-working, kind-hearted, and full of joy!
