This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students are mostly ESOL students coming from homes that speak Spanish at home. In this area of Manassas, a lot of them fall into the lower end of the socioeconomic status which puts a weight onto their learning. Speaking a different language at home makes reading and writing an extra challenge due to having to acquire a second language.

My students work hard at everything regardless of the challenges due to environment.

They arrive at school with a smile on their faces and strive to do their best.

My Project

My students come from mostly lower socioeconomic homes which makes buying snacks for school not a priority for parents. In the past years, our school has been part of a healthy snack program. However, this year we did not receive that funding. Our lunch in 2nd grade is at 1 pm, which is hard for a 7 year old. 90% of my students come to school without snacks and hunger negatively affects their learning and concentration.

Learning and retaining information is hard when your stomach is growling.

Donating to my project will help my students to be able to concentrate better throughout the morning to succeed in their learning. This will help to meet one of their basic needs which will help their academic growth and physical development. Thank you!
