My Students
I teach and coach at a public high school in south LA County, in the city of Whittier. Our students are very diverse and usually come from middle to low income families. As a result, it can be difficult to do fundraisers in the community and even more burdensome to ask the families to foot the bill.
My boys water polo team is an awesome combination of goofy, fun-loving kids here on campus.
They make me laugh constantly! Some of them are in clubs that do community service; others are hard at work in multiple Advanced Placement classes. All of them are eyeing colleges, trade schools, and top university prospects. Water polo is a great motivator for them to continue their education, develop teamwork skills, responsibility, and a hard work ethic.
Not all of my players can afford to play club water polo, which can leave us at a disadvantage during season playing more affluent schools. But their dedication makes up for it. Your contribution would go a long way to helping these kids have the best possible program on campus and give them a leg up on the competition.
My Project
These materials will go a long way in our fundraising campaign. Having new water polo balls, pump, lanyards, and carts will give our team a sense of pride in their program. New canopies will allow us to better host home games at our pool and keep our hardworking parents out of the sun while working the snack shack. With help taking care of some of these essentials, we can spend money made from other fundraisers on team bonding events, travel costs, tournaments, trophies, and banquets. Often we work hard to raise funds, only to fall short at the end of the year, so this would make a huge difference. With any money left over, we can give out scholarships to student athletes to play club locally and remain active in the sport during the school year.
