Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Can you imagine being in a new country as a 5th grade student and having to learn in a language you've never heard before? Well, our students are PROOF that it can be done! Together, 100% of students have learned to read and write in English last year. We grew 75 reading levels as a class in just the last two months of school. It took dedication, hard work, teamwork, and learning from our mistakes.
We want to ensure success with this year's students by creating a new Book Club for boys, the subgroup of students struggling the most with reading.
This project encompasses the wish list of our students, who put together their own book lists that they want to see in our library. We are in need of high-interest books to ensure our boys, especially, are cultivating a love for reading, and helping each other learn through this new Book Club for Boys!
My Project
At our school we have noticed that there is an over-representation of boys diagnosed with learning disabilities. In order to curb this trend, and help support intervention inside of the classroom, we have invited our boys to launch a new Boys Book Club this year wherein the boys get to choose their own materials (Scholastic SuperScience Readers and Comic Book sets).
Please help our students grow as readers and flourish in the classroom by supporting their dream reading club.
