My Students

This year is like no other. I have a class full of busy scholars innocently smiling at me through the computer screen, ready to soak up every drop of information and excited to be "in" school.

I continue to be amazed at the resiliency of my students.

My students live in a neighborhood where families take care of each other. A true community. Over eighty-five percent of the school's population receives free or reduced-price lunch and about one-third of my students are enrolled in the before and after school program. Despite barriers that could prevent our students from getting an education, our community is dedicated to the well-being and success of every child. Parents may not be able to give a lot monetarily, but they are walking their child or children to school everyday and/or communicating with teachers via phone and video chat. Everyday, our families make sure they are giving their child every opportunity to get an education.

Kindergarten is the beginning of most of my students' educational career. If I can keep their enthusiasm about learning alive, I have no doubt my students will be outstanding scholars.

My Project

In order to become great readers, my students need the opportunity to read books at their reading level as much as possible. The materials requested will allow me to lead guided reading groups with my remarkable early readers. We will be reviewing foundational reading skills such as concepts about print, high frequency words, and CVC words in these colorful books .

Eyes on text is the key.

The requested books range from beginning kindergarten to the beginning of fst grade levels. Each student will have their own set of books. The range of books requested will aid with differentiating reading levels for the young readers. These books will definitely bring joy and the love of reading, to the hearts of these young scholars.
