My Students

Do you remember your teacher telling you to sit still and how hard that was to do? We ask kids to sit for so long every day, and I know most adults have a hard time sitting all day long. Do you remember how hard it was to sit still in an uncomfortable chair all day?

Our room is very active, but it could be even better if we could replace our chairs with stability balls!

I work in a school where almost 99% of the students live in poverty. A lot of them aren't able to go outside and play when they get home because it isn't safe; or they live in a community where there is no room to go outside and play. Many of my students aren't able to play recreational sports such as football, soccer, basketball, etc. because their parents cannot afford to pay for them to play or provide transportation to get them to their games. So when are these children burning off their energy? Even though we do many interactive activities, I have a couple students that ask to stand periodically because they are simply tired of sitting in the chair. I also have a few students that struggle to focus when they are forced to sit still.Stability balls would allow them to release their jitters while maintaining focus and control of their learning.

My Project

I am requesting 25 stability balls to promote inquiry-based, active learning! If we used stability balls instead of chairs in our classroom, my students would be able to focus on their learning while releasing their extra energy in a positive way. The chairs would improve posture and strengthen back muscles without the students even realizing it! Sitting on the exercise balls increases blood circulation up and down the spinal column and to the brain. This increased circulation in turn oxygenates the blood the brain receives. We do brain breaks periodically during the day and students could easily use their stability balls to enhance these breaks. Students would have to use these balls as seats rather than toys, which encourages them to develop self control. They would also learn how to care for materials. My students are active and enthusiastic learners. I would love to foster their energy in a positive way! My students and I would be extremely grateful for these stability balls.

Statistics show these balls help students focus and improve their ability to sit during learning experiences.

These balls would be used daily for years and years to come. I want each and every child to succeed and make a tremendous amount of growth. In order to make this happen, they have to be able to move throughout the day. By making a donation to this project, you will be helping to ensure a better tomorrow and a better future in the lives of the next generation.
