My Project

Third grade is such a transitional year in elementary school. It's the first year of standardized year-end testing, it's when the shift from "learning to read" to "reading to learn" occurs, and it's when many kids start to blossom. It's such a special time, balancing being "grown up" and still being a kid.

Because they're still little and learning, I am requesting bouncy bands to help them focus their wiggles while still remaining focused on our lessons.

Having something "teacher-approved" to fidget with helps get extra energy. Even as an adult, I struggle to sit still for long periods of time, so it's unrealistic to expect that of third graders. I am requesting a class set of bouncy bands for their desks so that every child who wants one can use one.

I am also requesting brightly colored paper and paint sticks to incorporate art into the classroom whenever possible. I am also requesting a few new books for our library, including this year's Caldecott Medal winner Big.
