Bouncing Back From Harvey!

My students need the freedom of role playing to enhance their learning through the use of Melissa and Doug role playing toys and centers.

My Students

My Kindergarten babies are spontaneous, loving, and, most importantly, the most resilient group of kiddos that I have ever had the pleasure of loving. We have grown to become a close family. We keep each other laughing and smiling. The love in my room is contagious.

In August of 2017, our little town was turned upside down by Hurricane Harvey.

Our elementary school and most of my students homes were impacted drastically by the hurricane. We lost just about everything in our classrooms due to the flood waters. We started school around a month late when we were later placed at a junior high school. My five- and six-year-old babies have had to write, color, cut, and learn to adapt to a junior high cafeteria, desk, and bathrooms. They have never had the privilege of a playground. They have adapted to playing in an empty field. We have made the best out of the situation.

These five- and six-year-old children have dealt with more this year then any five- and six-year-old should have to deal with. Yet they still come to school each day with smiles.

My Project

I am asking for a walk in role play kitchen, a role play Star Diner Restaurant, and a free standing Fresh Market Grocery Store role play center to help enhance my students learning by role playing. We lost all of this in the flood and I feel like role playing is an essential learning tool for a kindergarten student. At this age, hands-on and role playing are these students love. I am also asking for the items to go along with the kitchen and the cash register. I know that these items will entertain my students for years to come!
