My Students
I work for a challenging school, one that my students range from being on the autism spectrum and being severely emotionally challenged. They are faced with many challenges both in and out of the classroom. Despite the many challenges they face, I am looking for way to keep their learning fun and comfortable.
Students who are sensory impaired, have cognitive delays, are on the autism spectrum, and are multiple disabled have difficulty adjusting to a typical classroom.
It is my job as an educator to make their learning experience as easy and comfortable as I am able to.
My Project
My students need flexible options for seating. They have a lot of overwhelming sensitivities and giving them the option to a bounce their feet around while doing work may alleviate some of these sensory issues. The bouncy bands for the feet are a great resource for students with ADHD and sensory processing disorders. Active students are more productive and spend more time on task when they can move.
Flexible seating options stimulate students' sense of touch and this will help children to focus and process information better.
The type of seating can be very beneficial and helpful for students on the autism spectrum. Students learn best when they have some control over their environment and with these new flexible seating options, they will be able to choose what they will be sitting on.
