This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students are teenage immigrants from all over the world. Some have escaped war, walked across Mexico, said goodbye to family and friends, all in the hopes of having a better future here in the US.

Many students travel 1-2 hours, waking up at 5 in the morning, to arrive at school on time, on only a few hours sleep due to late night jobs.

They work tirelessly and deserve the best chance at a safer, brighter future for themselves and their families.

My school is about 50% English Language Learners and one of the high schools in town that welcomes literally everyone who desires to attend.

My Project

Many of my students live alone, work late nights and arrive at school after free breakfast is served. If I can offer them healthy snacks to boost their energy and brain power, they are more likely to stay focused and positive in school.

When my students can focus in school, they can go on to graduate and support their families' needs by paying rent, utilities, groceries and by being powerful English speakers, readers and writers.

Then they can go on to advocate for their communities and make a difference in the world.

Often my students bring candy, sugary drinks and other empty calories as breakfast, but these nut bars, protein bars and breakfast bars will give them the long lasting energy they need to attain academic proficiency in English.
