My Project
For years, books have been banned or challenged because of different or unpopular ideas. It is so important that students have access to and exposure to these ideas to enable them to see new and differing perspectives on similar situations.
Bringing classically banned/challenged books to students is important to help them gain understanding of subjects they may not have experienced or thought about.
While my school has never banned books from our use, it is extremely important to allow my students access to these books. Some are newer novels that deal with more modern issues, while others are classics that have been banned or challenged in the past.
I also have had several books over the years "walk off" with students at the end of the term. I've always thought "maybe that's the exact book said student needs to get through life... maybe it's been life-changing for them... maybe it got them through the darkest/toughest points in life." I would like to bring those same books to other students as well!
Finally, I have a need for new, modernized, sturdy bookcases in my classroom. I've made do with what I've had for about eight years, but it's time to update!
Many times the written word is what helps bring students through tough times, protects their mental health, and helps students escape from reality, if only for a few chapters. Please help me bring this classroom library glow up to my students!
