Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My third-grade students walk into class every day full of energy and eager to learn! Our school is a Title 1 school where over 60% of the students are English Language Learners and 70% of the learners live in poverty. Our students love coming to school and our staff is dedicated to providing a balanced education for each and every student. The next step towards giving these students the comprehensive education they deserve is to provide resources that tailor to their needs.
My Project
This series of books, Ordinary People Can Change the World, show how people from all walks of life did just this! From Helen Keller growing up deaf and blind to become a national advocate for the disabled to Gandhi bringing peace to India and showing us that the smallest of us can be the most powerful.
I want to inspire my students to believe that they can be heroes and change the world too!
By reading these inspirational biographies of how 16 ordinary people can do extraordinary things my students will see that there is no limit to how powerful they can be.
In addition to learning about these great role models, we will also use these books as mentor texts to help students write their own biographies and informational writing. I know that these inspiring books will help my students in both their reading and writing and quite possibly give them an idea of how they too can change the world.
