The new Bristle Blocks and Lego Duplos are a big hit in the STEAM room for my TK-2nd grade students! Every week, over 400 students come to my STEAM room and both of these building toys are used every day with every grade level. There are serious Bristle Block creations of robots and airplanes, while I also see silly creations such as a 'man with five arms' that someone made last week. The Duplos are used to build scenes, like houses and playgrounds, in addition to Duplo Marble Runs!\r\nWhile playing with both of these building toys, students are unknowingly working on their creative thinking skills, problem solving skills, fine motor skills, and cooperating with others. The Lego set especially lends itself to teamwork and collaboration. Thanks to your generous contributions to this grant request, TK - 2nd grade students are not only having fun, but also developing creativity, communication, collaboration, and critical thinking skills. In my opinion, it is these skills that will help them to grow into happy, successful adults.","fullyFundedDate":1757533027099,"projectUrl":"project/blocks-bricks-and-beyond/9688048/","projectTitle":"Blocks, Bricks, and Beyond!","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Bryant","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp1876957_orig.jpg?crop=1892,1892,x0,y384&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1755298790382","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/jbryant"},{"teacherId":1876957,"projectId":9606931,"letterContent":"The puppet theater is an absolute highlight in the STEAM room. Each week I see over 400 students and the puppet theater is used consistently by students in every class, from TK to 2nd grade. \r\nWe've had stuffed animals doing a song and dance and plush hand puppets telling the story of the 'Three Billy Goats Gruff.' Each grade level has a poem that we are memorizing so there is often a 'puppet' saying the poem! First and second graders are learning about the salmon life cycle as we celebrate the return of Chinook Salmon to our local creek and I've had students telling the story of the life of a salmon using popsicle stick salmon puppets!\r\nAdditionally, there are usually two or three students watching the 'show,' so we are getting practice at being good audience members as well. When there are multiple students who want to take a turn, we have an egg timer that students use to know when it is the next person's turn. \r\nThis has been such a great addition to the STEAM room and it couldn't have happened without your support.
